Terms of use

This website, darkciphersystems.com, is run by DarkCipher Systems (Luke, "DarkCipher0x"), London, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). By using the site or downloading software from it, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site or the software.

We may update these terms from time to time; the "Last updated" date shows when. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Acceptable use

You may browse the site, download the software, read and reuse the source code under its licence, and send bug reports. You must not:

  • attempt to break into, disrupt, overload or probe the site or server for vulnerabilities without permission (responsible disclosure is welcome; see below);
  • attempt to access the private management area;
  • send spam, abusive, unlawful or malicious content through the bug report form;
  • scrape or mirror the site in a way that degrades it for others;
  • redistribute modified installers while presenting them as official DarkCipher Systems releases.

Automated protections (rate limits and temporary IP blocks) are in place, and abusive access may be blocked or reported.

Software licence (MIT)

WhisperDesk, CaseKeeper, the WhisperDesk add-on SDK and sample add-ons are free and open-source software released under the MIT License. You may use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense and sell copies, provided the copyright and licence notice are kept. The full text is included with each download and source archive:

Source code for every release is published on the Source Code page.

No warranty

The software is beta software, provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability or freedom from errors. Each release is tested before it is published and all source code is public for review, but we can't guarantee it will be error-free, meet your requirements or work on every system.

The same applies to this website and its content, including guides, wikis and instructions.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, DarkCipher Systems and DarkCipher0x are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the website or the software. This includes lost or corrupted data, damage to your computer or other devices, loss of profits, business or opportunity, and any indirect or consequential loss, however caused.

Always keep backups of important data before installing, upgrading or using the software.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, these terms don't affect your statutory rights.

Not professional advice

  • CaseKeeper is a tool for organising documents. It does not provide legal advice, and nothing it produces, including court bundles and summary reports, replaces advice from a solicitor, barrister or advice service. Check court requirements yourself.
  • WhisperDesk transcripts may contain errors. Its speaker identification, summaries and voice and audio analysis are investigative indicators, not proof of identity, authenticity or what was said. For evidential use, have recordings examined by an accredited forensic expert.
  • Content on this site, including the wikis, is general information, not professional, legal or technical advice for your situation.

Your responsibilities when using the software

  • Recording & consent: laws on recording conversations differ by country (one-party or all-party consent). You are responsible for having the right to record and transcribe audio.
  • Personal & biometric data: data you process with the apps stays on your computer and you are responsible for it as its controller, including voiceprints, which may be biometric data under UK GDPR and similar laws.
  • Court material: family court documents can be subject to strict confidentiality rules. Only share them as the court and law allow.
  • Security: keep Windows and the apps up to date, protect your PC, and use the built-in encryption and backup features where appropriate.

Unsigned software

Current releases are not digitally code-signed. Windows SmartScreen may warn you and Smart App Control may block installation. Whether to change Windows security settings is your decision. See the install guide, and verify downloads with the published SHA-256 checksums. Only download releases from this website.

Third-party components

The software includes open-source components under their own licences, which are listed in each app's licence file and documentation. They include whisper.cpp / ggml and Whisper.net (MIT), OpenAI Whisper models (MIT), sherpa-onnx (Apache 2.0) with pyannote and WeSpeaker models, Silero VAD (MIT), NAudio (MIT), PDFsharp / MigraDoc (MIT), SQLite / SQLCipher, SharpZipLib (MIT) and the WiX Toolset and Inno Setup (build tools). FFmpeg and Ollama are separate programs installed and licensed independently; they are not distributed with our software.

Trademarks

"DarkCipher Systems", "DarkCipher0x", "WhisperDesk", "CaseKeeper" and the associated logos identify our projects. Windows, Smart App Control and SmartScreen are trademarks of Microsoft; Twitch of Twitch Interactive (Amazon); OBS Studio of the OBS Project; AMD, NVIDIA and Intel of their respective owners; and other names belong to their owners. Their use here is descriptive only and doesn't imply any affiliation or endorsement.

Site content

Unless stated otherwise, the website's text, design and graphics are © 2026 DarkCipher Systems. You're welcome to link to any page and to quote reasonable extracts with attribution. The software and its source code are covered by the MIT License above. Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience; we aren't responsible for their content or practices.

Security disclosure

If you find a security vulnerability in the website or software, please report it privately so it can be fixed before anyone is harmed. Use the bug report form and tick "security issue", or email (see security.txt). Please give reasonable time to fix it before disclosing publicly, and don't access other people's data or disrupt the service while testing.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections you have under the law of the country where you live.
